Your Own Swing, The Foundation, & How Low You Score

Could you learn from a machine? With maybe 50 to 60 shots per round (30 or so for putting) it would take 200 rounds of golf to achieve 10,000 repetitions. And these would not even be repetitions of the same shot. Fourteen of the 50 would be with the driver; five or so with fairway clubs; maybe 30 with irons; and different irons at that. Even more to consider is that the only positive feedback gained during a round is when the golfer hit the perfect shot. No other verbal or tactile feedback is given, unless the golfer was playing the round with his professional instructor.

Wanting to improve my game, I did considerable research on the golf swing and found much of it to be contradictory and arguable. Two aspects of the swing however emerged as being irrefutable. And they were pertinent to my flaws. Every pro will agree to: keep your head behind the ball through impact and maintain your spine angle. In fact it is difficult to do one without the other. By focusing on developing muscle memory with these two aspects of my swing, I was finally able to break 80 (shot a 78) for the first time in my life at age 65. I have shot in the 70’s several times since.

Another great benefit of the Mike Austin golf swing is that swing is designed to use the joints properly, and as a result it is much easier on your body. Mike was a testament to that himself hitting monster drives injury free well into his late seventies, when a stroke, suffered due to repercussions of a car accident he was in, left him partially paralyzed. Using his left hand (backhanded) and not being able to pivot he, could still hit a seven iron over 140 yards when demonstrating the swing. Check him out on Youtube, you can see his swings through the years. It is remarkable to see him using his technique over the years, and you can see how well his body held up.

A golfer whose game has a solid foundation is not disturbed by a bad shot. He is not deeply upset by a poor round or a bad tournament. He is willing to adjust his game plan on the day he is not hitting crisp shots, but he is not looking for a quick-fix swing change. This is fundamental to long-term good play. If your foundation is shaky, your scores over time will be erratic at best. The player who scores well one day, then scores poorly the next couple of days, then has a good day is one whose foundation is built on shifting sand.

By having a stable spine, you must limit hip rotation in your swing. While hips are meant to move in dancing and tennis and so many other sports and recreations in the golf swing they are best kept as a sort of resistant spring effect. If you get the hips turning they take the spin off center giving a swaying type motion in golf the backswing. When the spine is a true axis the hips act as a coiling spring and there is storage of power ready to be released through the hands to the clubhead and to the ball. Add to this a shortened backswing, which is not loopy or floppy or way past parallel and you have added control to the power of the swing.

If we imitate the ‘Iron Byron’ we would firstly have a stable spine for the golf swing to work around. The human cannot be as perfectly held as the mechanical apparatus but we can remember that if the spine is an axis for the body to rotate around rather than dipping and swaying and creating different rotating planes for the swing we will have the basic positioning right. When we do have the Spine moving off its plane there is wastage of not just consistency but also both mental and physical energy. So if the spine is stable we can focus upon the ball and hand release, which is the end result of the swing process.

And the wedge. Sometimes we miss a green, or in the case of a par 5, we need a third shot to get on. Hogan prided himself on being able to get his wedge shots close. He felt if you could, there was no way a pin could be hidden from you. In fact, he called his pitching wedge his “equalizer”, and Ben Hogan iron sets do not include a club marked P or PW. They all have an E. And as with putting, many players can drive the ball well for a limited period but few can maintain consistent excellence over the course of a career that lasts decades. No-one can do it well all the time – even the absolute best have their off days and weeks – but these golfers did it better for longer than anyone else who lived.

Jose Maria Olazabal: Often couldn’t find a fairway with GPS but such are his powers of recovery, and iron play, that it didn’t matter. Has a fast tempo but a great, simple, repetitive technique that gets the job done time and again. The greatest Major ever – 1977s duel in the sun with Nicklaus – was decided on the 72nd hole when he split the fairway to set up his winning birdie. Like many in this list the quality of his ball-striking never left him but the golfing gods decide that very few can have it all for too long, so his putting stroke headed south.

John Daly: The enormous backswing means that if his timing is just a fraction out – which it often is – then the ball could go anywhere. One of the Great Triumvirate, along with Vardon and Taylor, Braid was the longest driver of the three and found more than his fair share of fairways. Won his five Open Championships in a 10-year stretch and even at age 78 shot a gross 74. Went on to become a notable architect whose courses, not surprisingly, put a premium on good tee shots. If your golf ball consistently curves to the right it can make for a long day. Every once in a while when you see trouble right it makes you aim further left, and of course that is about the time that the golf ball doesn’t slice.

Hitting a good drive puts you on offense. It leaves the ball in the part of the fairway here the green can be attacked, and even the pin. You should have a plan at the outset of every hole, and getting the ball off the tee into the right place is the key to carrying out your plan. Body Rotation – The machine has a motorized drive cylinder which provides the power for the swing. Attached to this cylinder is a metal arm equipped to hold a golf club. The arm has no power itself but is dependent on the drive cylinder.

When we got to the lesson tee, I asked D.M. to take a few practice swings, and then I had him hit a half a dozen shots. Moe Norman; Golf’s greatest eccentric was famous for hitting drivers so straight that a caddie with a baseball glove could stand at the end of the range and catch them – supposedly without moving his feet. 3. The arms do not actually swing. The left arm travels at the same speed as the rotation of the body. This is deceptive in Mike’s swing because of the free fluid action. People think of it as an arm swing motion. Nothing is further from the truth. Once he is wound up at the top the left arm will not advance relative to the rotation of the body until after impact.

Hank Kuehne: Tall, pencil-thin American who, like Gerald Ford, doesn’t know which course he’s playing until after the first tee shot comes to rest. US Open winners cannot afford to be wild off the tee and, while not up there with the longest in the game, Furyk’s unorthodox style gives him the repeatability for which most golf pros would sell their grandmothers. Now recovered from wrist surgery he perpetually demonstrates that anyone who can hit fairways and greens will be tough to beat. I pointed out to D.M. that this combination of proper footwork for balance and proper body action for power was the basis of every good golfer’s game, and that however he had acquired that little forward press, it had made it possible for him to use his body correctly and gave him the basis of a real good golf game.

What Do You Do When Your Game (Swing) Leaves You

If you’ve played golf for more than one season, then you’ve experienced the disappearing swing syndrome. I pointed out to D.M. that this combination of proper footwork for balance and proper body action for power was the basis of every good golfer’s game, and that however he had acquired that little forward press, it had made it possible for him to use his body correctly and gave him the basis of a real good golf game. Amateur golfers were able to improve the speed of their golf swing in about 15 minutes after starting use of the biofeedback training club. Even without receiving any instruction from a nearby teaching professional the amateur golfers were able to sense where they were bleeding club speed and were able to make immediate corrections.

It’s a game and it’s not predictable. You’re a human and you’re golf game is not predictable. That’s part of what makes this game so exciting. Your job is to not self-destruct while you’re playing the game. Whatever the reason, the importance of timing in the golf swing was recognized long ago by one of golf’s greatest players, Bobby Jones, who had a lot to say about the golf swing that still holds true. Face is the second important factor. To gain control over the clubface at the moment of impact, your hands must be at the same position when you make contact with the ball as at address or may be a bit forward. Returning your hands to the same position guarantees that your clubface is pointing in the same direction as when you set up to hit the ball.

David Leadbetter is known for working with Nick Price and re-tooling Nick Faldo.s swing that allowed him to win multiple major championships including The Masters and British Open. David Leadbetter.s books include Faults and Fixes, Positive Practice, The Golf Swing and Quick Tips. First some quick background on the great Mike Austin and his long driving ability. Mike claims to have broken the 400 yard barrier way back in the 1930s, a claim I think the Atlanta news papers at the time back up. Bobby Jones once watched a young Mike Austin blast drives over a lake that was 300 yards across with amazement.

Golf gals can now feel fabulous, wearing the most flattering of designs, holding fashionable clubs in their colorfully gloved hands and hitting bright and shiny balls. It has to be admitted that their colorful presence puts men to shame. Jones, Robert Tyre. 1992. Bobby Jones on Golf. No other book is as erudite and to the point as this one. At first, it reads like a book of reflections, but there is serious instruction here. The better golfer you are, the more it means to you. The Master stayed faithful to his putter ‘Calamity Jane’ throughout his career, and she remained faithful to him, helping deliver a remarkable string of success. Between 1923 and 1930, when he retired, Jones played in 23 of the Majors for which he was eligible, and won 13 of them – a strike rate of 62%, which no other player has come near matching. And a lot of it was down to putting. In almost every regard he was, simply, the Greatest.

Widely regarded by his peers as the best they have ever seen, Crenshaw’s smooth, unhurried rhythm was the key to his success. Tom Kite, who grew up with Crenshaw in Texas, once said of him: ‘I don’t remember Ben ever missing a putt from the time he was 12 until he was 20.’ He didn’t miss too many after that either. Inevitably his only two Major successes came at Augusta, where putting is the first game you need to bring. The main problem with attempting to use the pendulum method is that you will invariably hit at, not through the ball. This is the good news! What happens in your head after a few misses is the real problem. Pendulum putting causes the putter face to be, very often, mis-aligned to the target. Face misalignment is one of two critical problems in putting.

Tempo is the speed at which you swing a club. You can swing fast, slow, or in-between. Lanny Wadkins and Tom Watson have fast tempos. Ernie Els and Fred Couples have slow tempos. Tempo, for the most part, is the way you do things. You either do things quickly or you do them more slowly. When it comes to tempo, golf instruction is irrelevant. When Mike hit this record drive he was an amazing 64 years old and using the antiquated, to today’s standards, equipment. A 43 and ½ inch steel shafted driver with a 10 degree wooden head. He was hitting a balata golf ball. Most people simply don’t even believe that it happened.

The first thing that you need to realize is that tension kills the golf swing. What do Bobby Jones, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods all have in common besides the fact that they are some of the greatest golfers of all time? They all advocated a light grip pressure, because they all realize the need to feel the club throughout the golf swing. Video golf lessons are perfect because video golf lessons allow you to take the swing of a professional and break that down while you learn how to fix your own swing at your own pace. You would be amazed at how just watching video can help. The famous 1930s videos produced by Bobby Jones are awesome and you can catch them for free every now and then on the Golf Channel. Video golf lessons can be a great help.

As you can see, it is only through relaxation of your shoulders and the needed weight transfer of your body that you will ever be able to have your hands leading the club head at impact and enjoy the resulting crisp, solid shots. Most professionals have swing speeds of 100 mph or more. Tiger Woods who is one of the tour’s longest drivers has a swing speed in excess of 125 mph. Average lower handicap golfers come in around 90-95 mph. One reason the professionals get so much more speed at the club head is because they reach farther back at the top of the backswing and have a bigger arc in which to accelerate the club. It is just physics after all.

The Fix: Spend more time looking at the target in a relaxed yet focused way. Golfers will notice that when they are looking out at the target instead of the ground, the mind can only think of one thing; the target. This quiets the mental chatter because the mind is focused on the target and naturally begins to visualize the shot unfolding. This relaxed focus is embedding an image of the target in the subconscious mind and provides a clear goal to move towards. Accuracy was measured by the distance in feet between the tee and the ball’s final resting place. The scores were averaged over 15 trials for each participant. The training group outperformed the control group, which showed no improvement. The findings, according to the scientists, suggest that training in timing improves the accuracy of the golf swing. Furthermore, the improvement in performance was consistent across golf clubs.

It’s hard to imagine any golfer that has not been in this situation, Tour player or otherwise. It comes with the game. No two days are the same, for the player, for the golf course, for the weather. Everything is a little different every day. But some great moments in sports are less well known and less heralded. And they don’t always involve a championship game, providing golf tips, a teacher giving a golf lesson, or achieving a low golf handicap. They just happen and they don’t get much play in the media. Yet they make a major impact on the sport, changing it forever in some way. Golf seems to abound in quite, unheralded moments like these. Below are five of them that have made the game what it is today.

3. To hit solid iron shots you need a great tempo. Many people are too caught up in the positions of their golf swing, and neglect how important tempo is in order to hit crisp iron shots. The truth of the matter is that your swing can be funky and still produce good results if you have a good tempo. The reason for the silence of the top of the backswing with the professional golfers is that they are transitioning from a backward direction to a forward direction from their feet up. Since at the top of the backswing the club is at the highest part of their body it will be the last thing to experience the change in direction. The biofeedback training club also confirms that professionals make the loudest noise, the clubhead is moving the fastest, exactly at the point of impact with the ball.

Some older golfers will think this looks like a “reverse pivot” where the golfer seems to be leaning towards the target at the top of the swing. Teachers of the typical modern swing have their golf students draw the club back and stack their weight over their back leg when the club hits the top of the swing. But Stack and Tilt encourages the golfer to lean towards the target while the club is taken up. The Australian who took five Open championships, three of them in a row, is probably the most neglected multiple Major champion in golfing history. His quietly spoken, relaxed demeanour disguised the depth of his bloody-minded determination to win and he probably had the smoothest and best-looking putting stroke of anyone on this list. It wasn’t quite as effective as some but was a thing of beauty, and it got the job done.

If Charles Barkley Were White

Tiger Woods likes to make fun of Charles Barkley’s golf swing. Today, it seems that more and more attention is finally being given to this important aspect of the golf swing. Hank Haney, swing instructor for Tiger Woods, constantly refers to it as he tries to correct the swing of Charles Barkley on the Golf Channel’s recently aired, Barkley Project. Peter Kostis, golf analyst for CBS and Contributing Editor to Golf Magazine, refers to spine angle control as one of the key fundamentals for improving golf swing consistency. Kostis offers an excellent portrayal of the golf swing spine angle in a two minute video that can be viewed at ‘s web site. And somewhat in a jocular vein, Tom Watson stated in a YouTube video that exactly at 3:15 pm at the Heritage Golf Classic in 19992, he found the secret to the golf swing and it was the spine angle.

Have you ever heard a coach interviewed after a tough loss say, “If we just would have executed more tip dunks or 360 degree slams, we would have won.” I doubt you have ever heard that said. Instead you hear NFL, MBL, or NBA coaches say, “We need to get back to the basics of the game When we get away from them, nothing good ever happens.” That’s the statement I’ve heard hundreds of times over the past 25 years. A commitment to the basic fundamentals of any game lead to progress, growth, and success.

Stripped of his title in June 1983 for refusing to fight Hector Camacho in his home country of Puerto Rico, Chacon then attempted to win a third world title, but was stopped by lightweight champion Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini in 3 one-sided rounds in 1984 (and as boxing fortune would have it, Greg Haugen would do the same to Mancini in 1992 and then he, himself, woud have the favor returned by Thomas Damgaard in 03). I last saw Bobby fight in 1985 when he exposed and bruatalized up-and-coming Davey Montana in Reno. He won seven consecutive fights against solid competition, including Freddie Roach and Arturo Frias, to close out his career in 1988 with a 59-7-1 (47 KOs) record and a legacy as one of boxing’s most exciting and popular fighters.

Another element of the game that might turn a few players off is the golf swing mechanic. The analog sticks are no longer used to hit the golf ball; however, the buttons are used. This alteration may have been because of the lack of challenge with hitting the golf ball with the analog stick. The new way to make contact with the ball is to press the button three times (ala Madden kicking field goals). Once to start your swing, twice to start your downswing, and a third time for accuracy. If it seems too intricate, it really is fairly intuitive. Madden fans can easily make a smooth transition with this gameplay mechanic. Photo face is yet another new feature of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. It gives gamers the opportunity to generate their own face and put it in the game. This feature appears to be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Some golf teachers will hold the grip end of a club against their student’s head and have the student swing and hit balls. Hank Haney used this technique with Charles Barkley during Golf Channel’s Barkley Project. It did not work. One reason is that it is difficult for the teacher to hold a perfectly still club for any length of time without the club wavering. Another reason is that the teacher can only do this for a few minutes during a typical 45 minute lesson. The golfer cannot get enough repetitions of the desired steady head to break the faulty habit.

3. Take a wire hanger and straighten it out. Close the hook end so that it makes a circle, about the diameter of a golf ball. Place a quarter on the ground as if it were a ball. Address the coin with your driver. Now take the other end of the wire hangar and stick it into the ground, away from the coin, so that when you look down at the coin, as if you are addressing it, the circle end of the hangar, frames the coin. Now try to keep the wire circle framing the coin and in line with the target as you swing. It is OK if the coin appears to move sideways, to the right (if right handed) of the circle frame, along the target line on your backswing. But make certain that it returns to the center at impact. It is not OK if the coin moves up or down out of the center of the circle. That means you are changing your spine angle. After a few tries, you can replace the coin with a wiffle ball or real ball, if your backyard is sufficiently spacious.

Electronics Arts has not corroborated a Photo face feature for the Nintendo Wii. Sorry Nintendo Wii owners. The create a golfer aspect is back, and it has the usual things you would expect. You can create a golfer as skeleton-like as Nicole Richie, or as putrid as Rosie ‘Donnell. It is all up to the gamer. All of the mini-games remain intact in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008. The visuals in the game are brilliant. Everything from the beautiful golf courses to Tiger Woods’ millions dollar smile will appease anyone. Shot Confidence is another original aspect of the game. In a nutshell, playing well gives you confidence. Playing poorly lowers your confidence. Many will be dissatisfied with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008, but other will be elated. Overall, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008 is a solid improvement over Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007.

More recently however as golf increased in popularity, personal instructors and training aids were utilized to help golfers improve their swings. At age 10, Jack Nicklaus learned from Jack Grout, his first Pro Instructor, that it was important for him to keep his head “rock solid steady.” Grout provided tactile feedback to young Nicklaus by grabbing him by his hair and holding his head still, thereby helping Jack to get that tactile feel for a steady head. Ultimately, Jack developed the muscle memory that enabled him in fact, to keep his head still.

From a physical point of view, spine angle is the angle created by the back relative to the hips and legs. The back should be flat and the arms should hang comfortably, as they grip the club. Obviously, the angle will change slightly with each club. From an importance point of view, it is easy to see that if this angle changes only slightly, a mishit will occur. If the angle increases, i.e. the back or head come up, a topped shot will occur. If the angle decreases, i.e. the head or back move closer to the ball, one will hit behind the ball and a fat shot will occur. The longer it can be held throughout the swing, the better the chance of a solid hit. And the more often it can be maintained, the more often will shots be consistent.

The simple fact is that perfecting your putt is the simplest way you can consistently shave off one or two strokes from your game. This is by far the easiest way you can practice your golf – without the limitation of having to go to the golf course. All you really need is your putter, a ball, artificial mats and cups to simulate the green. Place the mats and cups in your backyard or wherever you have space and away you go. Just spend anywhere from 5 minutes to half-an-hour every evening after dinner and you will notice the results in your game.

Long before the movie Spam Jam came out or the character Grandmama was selling shoes Johnson was making his mark with the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV) Runnin’ Rebels where he led the team to its only NCAA tournament basketball national championship in 1990. Larry Johnson, also commonly referred to as LJ, did not join the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels hoops team right out of high school, and instead the Texas native first began his collegiate career at Odessa College. After playing one season (1988-1989) with the Odessa, Texas based junior college LJ made the move to Las Vegas and joined the Runnin’ Rebels team where he made an immediate impact.

But his personal life would once again be marred by tragedy when his son was murdered in 1991. Later, Bobby was spotted at a public appearance in 1996 to see the Pay Per View fight between De La Hoya and Chavez. By 2000 he had lost all of his material posesions including his mansion, farm and numerous cars. But far more tragically, he was now, by all accounts, suffering from pugistica demenetia, a condition that sometimes occurs among ex-fighters who take too many blows to the head. Bobby’s speech is slurred and thick-tongued, his memory poor and he is now unsteady on his feet. In 2002, USA Today ran a story detaiing his residence in a Los Angeles transient way station, where local non-profit groups buy rooms for the homeless. He was 47 and living on a social security disability pension, and has been seen looking for aluminium cans on the streets and in junk yards to help support himself.

Not only is he the only player to ever tally more than 200 points in a single season, he accomplished the feat four times. He scored over 100 points in a season 13 consecutive times, with a total of 15. He also turned 50 hat tricks. Not only did he beat the team I despise most, but he threw the ball about 73 yards in the air to score the game winning touchdown. Maybe Kordell can tell this story to his grand-kids one day, because he sure as hell doesn’t have many NFL stories to tell. Roger Marris went through a tough time when he broke the Babe’s home run record. Mark did not have it very rough, but I was glad to see the record broken because it sparked some more interest in baseball again (steroids aside). It’s cliche, but records are meant to be broken.

How To Fix Body Sway In The Golf Swing

Driving the golf ball farther is largely a function of maximizing clubhead speed through impact. Your setup might show one swing plane angle that may be entirely different from the actual plane of rotation of your shoulders. Then, start to implement the 7 “clock to 1 “clock golf swing drill by picturing a clock in your mind printed on the ground beneath you. This is one of the great golf tips because it gets your swing planing from the inside to the outside and will in most cases counter the slicing effect on the ball (and can form the foundation of creating a perfect draw for more advanced golfers).

Tempo in the golf swing is a combination of many parts. Tempo is part timing in all aspects of the golf swing. It is part sequencing of each position within the golf swing, and it is part “feel”. Putting all these golf swing parts together creates tempo in your own golf swing. The more effective golf swings are done on a single plane. This next golf drill will help you accomplish this by improving your arm rotation. If your weight transfer exceeds this position, your timing will be off, your golf swing mechanics will be flawed, and compensation of the downswing will occur.

This drills trains your body to shift your weight to your back foot at the beginning of the backswing and allows your body to shift its weight toward the front foot at the end of the backswing, and then on through the downswing. It also promotes a much healthier spin angle, both atop your swing and into the finish. Fixing the area of the golf swing that is giving you problems can be addressed by implementing swing drills. The backswing is a rotation to the right, consisting of a shifting of the player’s body weight to the right side, a turning of the pelvis and shoulders, lifting of the arms and flexing of the elbows and wrists. At the end of the swing, the weight has shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body is fully turned to the left and the hands are above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the players’ back.

1. Perform drill at half-speed pausing at key checkpoints. Address a teed ball with 7-iron. Swing back three-quarters and pause. How a golfer positions their feet in the stance is crucial if they want to promote a good turn that creates at least some torque and resistance. If a golfer turns both feet out slightly it will allow the hips to turn with ease which automatically helps the shoulders to turn. If the feet are set at right angles to the hole, which some people advocate, it limits hip turn, which consequently limits the shoulder turn.

The answer isn’t that complex actually. Practice starting your takeaway by moving the club back in one piece with the shoulders and arms, ( forming a “V” shape), and concentrate on keeping the back of the left hand facing down the target line for the first eighteen inches or so of your backswing. Now all you have to do is swing up over your shoulder in a circular path, and along the swing plane that you had established at address. 1. Some golfers suggest a stronger grip showing at least two knuckles of the left hand if you are a right hand golfer. This keeps the clubhead square on impact.

It is during the follow through phase that you will find the arm nearly parallel to the ground just after impact. The more traditional swings (players with continental grip) would force the player to follow through up over their shoulder. I want to un-complicate the ” magic move.” If you want to hit the golf ball with authority and maintain great angles through impact you have to do this one move correctly. After a few days of this stretch, you will find your distance on the range will improve as you begin to extend your backswing more. However, you should see marked improvement your accuracy consistency right from the start the more you swing down the target line.

Your body swings the golf club and performs the biomechanics of the golf swing. In order to perform the biomechanics of the golf swing correctly. It is necessary for your body to have certain levels of flexibility, balance, endurance, strength, and power. If your body is lacking any of this aforementioned list learning the biomechanics of the golf swing correctly will be very difficult. A golf fitness program is the final key to developing tempo in your golf swing. Although he spends most of the book discussing and dissecting the golf swing, he has a few putting tips that can help all of us who are looking to improve our play on the greens. The three practice techniques listed below discuss your putter’s face angle at impact, how to synchronize your natural body motion for smoother putts, and how to maintain a consistent rhythm regardless of the length of your putt.

However, if you are off plane, you will get immediate visual feedback, (very valuable), because the golf club’s shaft in your hand is either inside or outside the club that is lying on the ground. It is then up to you to continue practicing this drill until your mid iron’s shaft consistently covers the golf club lying along the toe line. This drill will also help build muscle memory for ‘bigger arm rotation’ and for keeping the ‘trailing arm close to the body’ during the backswing. Modern players use the western forehand grip which allows the player to make contact just below shoulder height due to the racket face angle. This suits clay court players who like to hit the ball up high allowing for their racket to get under the ball and brush up behind it.

Let me introduce you to the “Clap Your Hands” drill. This drill will teach you to synchronize the straightening of your front leg and back arm along with squaring your shoulders and clubface at impact. Well, the same is going to be true in your golf swing. The same universal law applies whether you’re throwing a ball as far as you can, or hitting a golf ball with your golf club as far as you can. I encourage you to practice this swing initiation drill with your left shoulder turn in front of a mirror at home.

Once kids have gotten the hang of the forehand stroke, try teaching the backhand stroke with the following progressive tennis drills. First, demonstrate the motion of the racquet using a very short backswing. Some kids may find it easier to use a shortened grip at first. Once your players understand the motion involved for ground strokes, the drills can begin. BENEFITS: Improves balance, timing and overall swing fundamentals for crisp shots. Synchronizes weight transfer and body rotation throughout the practice drill.

Depending on how rolled the wrist become, on the ensuing downswing the golfer has to drastically change directions and contort their golf swing to get the golf club anywhere near making contact with the golf ball. It is not pretty to observe, with casting moves, karate chops and premature opening up of the lead shoulder, the most common sightings. Another drill to improve your shot accuracy and control is to take a golf cover and slip it inside the armpit of your trailing arm (right arm for right-handed players). Do a swing without letting the golf cover fall off. This drill will train your body to keep the trailing arm close during a swing.

4. The drill to cure your golf slice. Drills are great for improving your game and many of the drills i suggest can be performed in the back garden and for most of them all you need is a golf club. Here is your drill to cure the dreaded golf slice. In this situation you can designate one court to work on this “big” forehand and then group your players accordingly by level. That way the coach can set the appropriate drills for each smaller group of players. Live ball tennis drills are used when training a larger group of players.

Demo Golf Clubs

The many golf GPS units available today eliminate the need of hiring an expert caddie to help you with determining your hole distance and with the various course targets. A woman’s golf swing is faster and stronger than a child’s golf swing but still is slow to get the maximum potential out of your swing. Women have to look for a special kind of ball to make sure they are getting the most out of every swing. An experienced golfer, a person who has been playing for more than 3 years would know if they had a slow swing speed they would need to get a Precept Lady or a Maxfli Noodle. These balls for slow swing speeds help women or young ladies to get the most out of their game. Without these specifications in the balls women would be struggling to get it to go anywhere.

For women as much as men balls can make a big difference to your game, the more complex multi-layer constructions will provide more feel and control, whilst the simple two-layer offerings will give you the distance you need before you start to think about finesse. But for women, balls such as the Srixon Soft Feel for Ladies (pic) are designed to give a higher launch trajectory for greater overall distance, performing best in tandem with women’s slower swing speeds. They should also provide excellent feel around the greens.

With an odd name and striking yellow and grey colour the Nike club certainly stands out. True to its name the Sasquatch has a lot of power boosting features such as an oversized club head with a centre of gravity in the back of the club head to boost the launch angle and hopefully send your ball further; they even come with a “lucky” 13° angle club for ultimate loft in your tee shots. Again, forgiving features such as a club head made not to twist should help you hit with the centre of the club face every time.

I started playing with the Callaway ERC Fusion driver in the spring of 2004. I had previously played the Callaway C4, the Biggest Big Bertha, the Great Big Bertha, and the Big Bertha Warbird. Although I liked my previous drivers, and hit them fairly well, none compare to the success I am having with the ERC Fusion. I have become much more accurate off the tee, hitting more fairways, and driving much longer than my regular opponents. As you probably know, when you are longer and straighter off the tee, you score better.

The typical driver has a loft between 7 to 12 degrees and golfers that are more seasoned usually use drivers with lower lofts. (10 degrees of less) This is because low loft clubs require that more skill is used to get optimal distance and loft. Beginning golfers tend to use drivers that are closer to 12 degrees because they are better outfitted to give more loft by themselves. Though experienced players tend to make use of low loft drivers, it has become more common for professionals to opt for drivers with a higher loft. The reason they cite for this decision is that they make longer drives due to the high launching angle combined with a spin that is lower. This is what a higher golf driver loft can do for you.

This driver has far more benefits aside from the fact that this was engineered to be longer and straighter than any golf driver the Callaway has made. With its weight, it provides more stability, consistency and it gives the golfer an incredible feel and an increased speed. With the weight replacement technology that was applied in this driver and with its high end materials such as titanium, cured carbon fiber and formed aluminum cast and steel, this driver doesn’t only give a good feel to the golfer, it also gives a stunning appearance.

Determining what golf driver loft is right for you can be tricky but there are tips to follow to ensure you choose the best one. The first step is to evaluate the speed that you swing the driver. This can be done two ways. You can go to a golf shop and use a pro measuring device or you can make the estimate on your own. To do this you must figure out what club you would use for a shot of 150 yards. If what you use is a 7 iron then your usual speed will be about 100 mph, a 6 iron will give you about 90 mph and an 8 iron will give you about 110 mph. Next, choose the loft that is based on the club speed you assessed. If you find that it is between the range of 95 to 105 you want to use a club with an 11 degree loft. If it is from 105 to 115 the loft should be a 7, 8 or 9. For those below 85, use a loft between 14 and 20 degrees for the golf driver loft. For those who are above 130, use a loft that is between 4 to 7 degrees.

A Hybrid Golf Club has been designed with better distance control and more accuracy. Club makers have shifted the ‘center of gravity’ to the bottom of the club that allows the clubs attain a better level of perfection. This particular arrangement helps in launching the ball in the air easier and with better control of direction. Keep in mind though; you still need to have a decent golf swing, because a poor swing will still result in a bad shot. These clubs have also been designed to give it a higher launch angle and a flat face which gives the golf ball a higher spin and helps it stop faster with more precision.

When a child is looking for a golf ball to use, they must figure out what they want. They know they have to get something that is going to give them the maximum distance out of the shot, because most children have slow clubhead speed. Getting golf balls for slow swing speeds most people have to compromise in getting hard balls that is not going to give them a lot of spin when they get close to the green instead of softness, which will give them spin and more control. Having that perfect ratio of hard to soft together in one ball is not possible because everyone’s golf swing is different and every golf ball is different. With a child’s swing they need the maximum distance out of their shot. The Pinnacle Powercore red or the Top Flite XL 2000 are the perfect ones for a child who has a slow swing speed.

Every player that is playing golf needs to have their own equipment, in their own bag with their own golf balls. Most sports require some sort of equipment to play the games, but golf perhaps requires the most individual equipment. Golf requires different types of clubs that include putters, drivers and irons. Each golf club is made up of a shaft with a grip and a club head. Each and every club the player carries are used for different shots; for example the drivers are primarily used off the tee box and are used for long distance shots, after you get off the tee box the player would then use an iron, the irons which are the most versatile clubs are used for various kinds of shots on and off the fairway, and the last club used on each hole, providing you did not get a hole in one or hole out on the previous shot is the putter, the putters are used to roll the ball on the green into the cup and finalize each hole.

The Best Golf Swing Meets The Best Golf Clubs

It’s easy to spot someone who slices the ball on the course or driving range, they are the golfers retreating away from the ball, their weight on the back foot. There are many great left hand golf DVDs to choose from, including “The Body Golf Series of Instructional Golf DVD’s for Left Handed Golfers.” This left hand golf DVD was created by Coach Mark Anthony Mantaquila, because at the time, there were not many to choose from. Things have changed and today, there are many more left hand golf DVDs out there. It’s just a matter of time before left hand golf equipment is less scarce. Mantaquila, a left handed golf pro, did not learn classic golf as a youngster. Instead, he learned like the rest of us do, later in life as adults. That is why his DVD set has received such great reviews. He takes golf for the left handed golf player and puts it in laymen’s terms. But most importantly, he makes golf fun.

The classic swing style continued in the hands of Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones in the 20’s, the latter whom continued to refine the style with much careful thought and practice. It was about this time that a teenage Mike Austin probably watched and was influenced by Jones at Eastlake Country Club. 2. Stand in a door way with your feet in a line perpendicular to the door opening. Lean over as if you were addressing a ball and place your head on the door jamb. Holding your head steady, try to take your normal golf swing back and through an imaginary ball on the floor.

The hands and club head will be higher off the ground at the top of the swing generating more “potential energy” for the swing. When you think of the energy that can be created by hoisting a 20-30lb weight above your shoulders and dropping it, you will understand where increased energy comes for the swing. That weight being the combined weight of your club and arms. You’ll also need a waterproof jacket and pants for those days when the weather turns bad. They should be made so that you can still swing freely while wearing them. Golf gloves made from leather or synthetic fabrics can help to give you a better grip on your club. Baseball-style caps and sun visors are invaluable for keeping the sun out of your eyes when you’re playing.

For golfers who may be stiff in their trunk flexibility, shoulders or may have a few inches more around their mid section than they would like, starting the swing with their hands encourages them to “wrap” their swing around their body causing a flat swing plane. Most of us – whether we rotate a lot or not – are not in the habit of hitting our hips with our hands when we swing our golf clubs. The reason is simple: our hips do not get in the way of our swing, and to suggest this as an explanation of the importance of hip rotation is just plain misleading.

The flatter your swing plane the more your shoulders are moving in the horizontal plane. Keep this example in mind. Remember Kirk Gibson’s home run to win the game for the Dodgers in their World Series against the A’s? He had no power in his legs due to bad knees. Yet, he was able to hit that home run just by flicking his wrists and rotating his forearms. Wade Boggs, renowned for being a line drive hitter, was said to be able to hit balls out of the park at will during batting practice since he had such great hands.

A golf swing fan can also help you to develop muscle memory. If you practice with a swing fan, over time your body will know what to do when you swing your golf club. Many amateur golfers are so concerned with being in the right position at the top of the backswing that they wait too long to get the downswing started with the lower body, and they lose all the stored up power that results from the coiling of the back swing. If you can get this timing down, you will see a dramatic increase in your driving distance.

This “moment of truth,” impact, is really the only thing that matters whether you’re pounding your driver or trying to coax in a 3 footer. Whether or not you can square the face of the club to the intended target line at impact determines how successful any single swing will be. Golf and the Spirit by M. Scott Peck, 1999. In this book M. Scott Peck writes a book for beginners and masters alike. It goes beyond mechanics to explore the deeper issues, ways of managing the emotional psychological and spiritual aspects of this wonderful, maddening, deflating and inspiring game.

Finally, golf humor. If you play regularly, you need to have a sense of humor about the game and particularly about your game. Here are some of the most humorous books on it ever written. Does Wii have the potential to sharpen sports skills? Playing the video games in order to sharpen real life sports skills isn’t a completely ridiculous idea. Obviously if you’ve never swung a golf club before, maybe it’ll help you to learn how to golf swing mechanically. 1. The first mistake that most golfers make with the backswing is swinging too fast. There is no rush to get to the top of the backswing, so why do golfers seem to rush things? I think that most golfers put so much thought and effort into the downswing that they basically ignore the backswing. If you want to improve your backswing coil then slow your swing down.

Great Golf Stories, edited by Robert Trent Jones, 1982. A comprehensive collection of writing about the game. It offers the best that has been written with a running commentary from one of the greatest course architects. How is the average golfer supposed to know a good swing trainer from a bad one? Well that is where a honest review or recommendation from someone who has been where you are comes in very handy. Numerous drills exist that ingrain the four tips suggested above. For example, to learn to maintain posture, take a narrow stance and then drop your back foot away from the target line about 12 inches. Using a middle iron, hit shots from this position, which discourages your upper body from tilting back on the swing and teaches you to hit against a firm left side. Use drills like this to improve your swing.

This little swing tutorial is written by a local golf instructor who has impressed his clients of recreational golfers by helping them improve their game rapidly that they encouraged him to write a book and achieve more national recognition. The foundation of the Mike Austin golf swing, as for all golf swings, is the set up. You will learn a very structured and precise way to line yourself up to the ball so that once put in motion the swing can operate freely, without correction or compensations, which would degrade both accuracy and power. It is this precision and attention to detail that makes this action so consistent once it is properly trained.

Instead of your hands being high and above your shoulders, let’s keep them below your shoulders on your backswing. Low and around yourself. Flat. Flat as a pancake. It contains the modern golf strategies that golfers are looking for, plus all the other information about golf that will interest the more competitive and obsessive golfers such as golf physics and kinesiology. You see the reason so many weekend golfers top their shots is because of the improper use of the golf club. Releasing the club too early causes the clubface to contact the ball above its center line resulting in the dreaded topped shot or “worm burner” as it is sometimes called.

Penick, Harvey. 1992. Harvey Penick’s Little Red Book. It reads like a string of homilies, but its simplicity belies its depth. The golfer who is advancing can read the same chapter and get something new out of it each time. This training aid teaches the golfer to make contact with the ball with a forward leaning club shaft. Doing so brings the clubface and its sweet spot into the ball properly allowing all the engineering built into the golf clubs (loft, grooves and shaft performance features) to cause the classic ball flight we have all come to know and love.

If you block shots off the tee, it may be because you’re swinging too aggressively. Being aggressive has its advantages as long as you keep it under control. Then, you can use this aggressiveness to your advantage, as I teach in my golf instruction sessions. If you’re serious about chipping away at your golf handicap, learn to control your aggressiveness and put it to better use. To conduct this drill, swing the driver with one arm and keep your body square at all times. You may look a little out of place or odd to other players, but who is developing their hip rotation and who is not? Proper hip rotation is crucial in the game of golf.

On the other hand taller golfers naturally swing with a more upright swing plane simply because of the increased height of their shoulders from the ground. Now it’s time to unleash your secret weapon, the CFT Ti Hybrid. This may be the most sought after club in the Ben Hogan line available today. It will be the secret weapon that enables you to shoot lower scores. The CFT Ti Hybrid is specifically designed to get the ball up quickly making it easier to hit. This results in great shots on every swing of the club. Using this club will make your long irons with their inherent striking problems obsolete.

What Do You Do When Your Game (Swing) Leaves You

Could you learn from a machine? And the wedge. Sometimes we miss a green, or in the case of a par 5, we need a third shot to get on. Hogan prided himself on being able to get his wedge shots close. He felt if you could, there was no way a pin could be hidden from you. In fact, he called his pitching wedge his “equalizer”, and Ben Hogan iron sets do not include a club marked P or PW. They all have an E. Because this is such a common malady, I’d like to make a few comments and a few suggestions. It is not reasonable to think that you will hit the ball exactly the same way every day you play. There may be short periods of time, a week or two here or there, when your ball striking is exceptionally good. But you shouldn’t expect that every day. Every day is a new day and every day you are a little bit different.

There is no doubt in my mind that the tee shot is one of the top three most important shots in golf. I would rate driving the ball right along with putting and pitching as the three most important parts to the game. That is why you have to get rid of the slice forever.

Each day it is a slightly different version of you that shows up at the first tee. Some days you will hit the ball a little shorter than normal, or curve it a little more than normal, or hit a little longer than normal. Your job is to adjust your game to what you are today, rather than trying to adjust yourself to fit your picture of your perfect, normal golf game.

The Mike Austin golf swing is based on three key points that are often considered to be incorrect by most golf teachers. Some methods might include an idea or two that mirror his swing method but none include them all. Below I will list three of the foundational concepts to the Mike Austin golf swing method. He again emphasized to me that the move your hips must make, gives you that power and accuracy, provided you have a solid grip and adhere to the basics. For those who never watch Byron grip a golf club, his hands looked like they were molded to eat. You could see he had a beautiful grip.

It’s hard to imagine any golfer that has not been in this situation, Tour player or otherwise. It comes with the game. No two days are the same, for the player, for the golf course, for the weather. Everything is a little different every day. What would happen to a two-story, 2,800-square-foot house built on sand with no footings? The weak foundation would cause the house to collapse and fall down at some point. There would be nothing solid under the house to hold it upright over time. Why am I talking about houses? I’m not. I’m talking about foundations. A house needs a solid foundation. So does every golfer.

And as with putting, many players can drive the ball well for a limited period but few can maintain consistent excellence over the course of a career that lasts decades. No-one can do it well all the time – even the absolute best have their off days and weeks – but these golfers did it better for longer than anyone else who lived. Arguably the greatest woman golfer ever to pull on spikes, she was so impressive that even Bob Jones said he had never been so intimidated by anyone’s play. Henry Cotton added: ‘I do not think a golf ball has ever been hit, except perhaps by Harry Vardon, with such a straight flight by any other person.’ She won five English Amateur and four Amateur Championships and retired far too early.

1. The wrists swing freely from the top of the swing and “release” fully through the ball. There is no holding on to the flat left wrist or consciously delaying the wrist action in the downswing. The moral of that paragraph is that it’s not how pretty the swing is that’s important but how low you can score on a consistent basis. So give up trying to have a perfect swing and hitting nothing but perfect shots. Concern yourself with figuring a way to score low with the game and ball striking you have right now.

The beauty of this golf swing drill is being able to hit consistent shot, time and time again. It’s easy to know where your clubhead is when your not brining it out of your golf flexibility range and losing the feel of the clubhead. So, I explained to D.M. that while his footwork and body action were good, this faulty hand action caused his shots to stray to the right or fall off to the left; in other words, they went any place but down the middle. Body Rotation – The machine has a motorized drive cylinder which provides the power for the swing. Attached to this cylinder is a metal arm equipped to hold a golf club. The arm has no power itself but is dependent on the drive cylinder.

If your golf ball consistently curves to the right it can make for a long day. Every once in a while when you see trouble right it makes you aim further left, and of course that is about the time that the golf ball doesn’t slice. Byron always told those he taught, that it was most important to educate others by giving back to the game, that which was given to you. We all lost a dear sweet friend late September 2006. The accolades came pouring in, including those of the president. Byron Nelson did live to the age 94 and I’m sure he is up in heaven playing with his past friends.

How can this inform your game? Practice your swing with your short irons. Hit very few drivers in practice. It’s a seductive club that can ruin you. When you hit a driver, just stand up a little straighter, play the ball forward, and use your short iron swing. That’s all you need to do.

John Daly: The enormous backswing means that if his timing is just a fraction out – which it often is – then the ball could go anywhere. Wedge? Find two distances, 30 yard and 60 yards, and practice until you can hit the ball on a dime from each one. Vijay can pull this off because he is a workout maniac, For over 40 he’s got to be one of the fittest guys on tour. He spends a lot of time on his core throwing medicine balls and rotating at the same time. This is a perfect example of how a golf specific drill like the towel under the arms golf swing drill can be very effective IF you are in shape to do it.

Also retired when still in his prime – at age 34 (because of haemophilia and a dislike of the Tour pro’s life) and, unlike most in this list, eschewed a controlled fade or draw in favour of simply hitting it straight. It was something he did so well that in 1945 he won 18 tournaments, 11 of them on the bounce, for the greatest streak of all time. I pointed out to D.M. that because of the tense death grip with his left hand, he kept raising the club with his left hand and left arm and throwing or rolling the club into open position at the top of the swing.

I then proceeded to show D.M. that after making the forward press, which was his first move, he then made move two, a reverse press (changing knee positions and thereby shifting his balance onto his right leg and right foot), that he then made move three (raised the club to the top of the swing) and then move four (brought the club down into and through the ball).

Jose Maria Olazabal: Often couldn’t find a fairway with GPS but such are his powers of recovery, and iron play, that it didn’t matter. I pointed out to D.M. that this combination of proper footwork for balance and proper body action for power was the basis of every good golfer’s game, and that however he had acquired that little forward press, it had made it possible for him to use his body correctly and gave him the basis of a real good golf game. Hitting a good drive puts you on offense. It leaves the ball in the part of the fairway here the green can be attacked, and even the pin. You should have a plan at the outset of every hole, and getting the ball off the tee into the right place is the key to carrying out your plan.

When we got to the lesson tee, I asked D.M. to take a few practice swings, and then I had him hit a half a dozen shots. I told him that was the natural sequence of motion in a golf shot and that golf champions such as Harry Var-don, Bobby Jones, Leo Diegel, Jimmy Demaret, Jackie Burke, Paul Runyon, Lawson Little, Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, George Bayer, Mike Souchak, Jay Hebert, and countless others, all had or have this one, two, three and four rhythm in their golf swing. Quite possibly the most naturally gifted player ever, Snead’s swing was so fluid that it was likened to pouring molasses over treacle and the epithet ‘Slammin’ Sam’ always did him a great disservice because he was a pure swinger, not a hitter. He won 84 US Tour events – a record still to be beaten, over six different decades, five Majors and recorded 34 holes-in-one. He remained good enough to finish third in the US PGA at age 62 and throughout it all his driving was the lynchpin.

Golf Club Distance

Many golfers do not have the swing speed needed for the extra stiff and stiff shafts they have on their current golf clubs. For most golfers, the ordinary, standard cast iron clubs are the best way to go. 3) It also helps increase club head speed by giving your large muscles a little more weight to react to. My analogy here is that you can throw a golf ball farther than you can throw a ping pong ball. Even as amateurs and weekend golfers, we too, should learn this lesson. Our first step should be to develop a consistent swing with each of our clubs, rather than aiming for greater distance. Once we can hit the ball the same distance, to the same location every time, then we can increase the power of our swing to get more distance.

4) It also helps increase club head speed by allowing more energy to be stored on the back swing for release on the down swing. Intermediate Golfers – As an intermediate golfer you are starting to get some consistency in your game. You are making better contact with the ball and having more success with your accuracy. Even though you are lowering your scores, it is not time to change to less forgiving irons. BENEFITS: Emphasizes proper impact position and feel of solid impact in full swing. Establishes good body rotation and weight transfer throughout the golf drill.

Most golfers, including professionals are using 460cc Drivers and some professionals have added hybrids in their bags. If you are looking to upgrade the clubs you are carrying, then consider a higher quality perimeter weighted iron. There are several great manufacturers to consider. I like Callaway, Taylormade and Ping. Irons are the most versatile style of club, and usually the most numerous in a golf bag. Individually customized, these clubs run $80-$100. Most people will probably look into buying irons in a set. The moderately tweaked club sets can be found for $200-$250, while the more specific sets can run closer to $700-$800. These prices include sets of 7-9 clubs.

Tiger Woods is a world-class athlete. Most average players are not. Most people period, are not. A 13 degree driver will launch the ball at 13.7 degrees and the ball will carry 213 yards. The difference between 9 and 13 degrees is 7 yards. BENEFITS: Improves balance, timing and overall swing fundamentals for crisp shots. Synchronizes weight transfer and body rotation throughout the practice drill. Shaft choice is also something to take into consideration. Have your swing speed measured to determine how much flex you want in your golf club shaft. This can have a major effect on your results. You may consider graphite shafts as an alternative to the traditional Steel shaft.

2. Swing a slightly heavier weighted club like a persimmon driver with a steel shaft, and repeat exercise above. This will give your muscles extra resistance, and they will gain strength and power. If you don’t have a wooden driver on hand, you can always put an ankle high sport sock over your driver and swing. You really don’t need a lot of extra weight here. Perform another 5 sets of 5. Swinging has become increasingly popular across middle aged mainstream married, or committed, couples. Over 4 million people world wide are swingers, with over 3000 swingers clubs around the globe to join. Swingers can also meet through online swinger’s sites, swinger’s personal ads, house parties and swinger’s lifestyle magazines.

Another advantage? A hybrid fairway’s smaller size makes it a better club from difficult or fluffy lies. They simply won’t get hung up in the grass as easily as a fairway wood. Woods drives through the ball, using his hips, shoulders and wrists to concentrate his force and crate a very high initial ball speed. Within 2 feet off the tee the ball is travelling at around 180 mph – 20 mph faster than the average tour pro. Sure the new drivers have created a lot of excitement. Massive 460cc head sizes and new high tech shafts mean you can get more distance and accuracy than ever for your tee ball. But, unless you get the correct loft and shaft flex you may not be getting the most out of these new high-tech, high-priced wonders. To do that you need to know your clubhead swing speed. Why do you need to know your clubhead speed? Here’s the scoop.

As he begins his swing, Tiger builds up club head velocity by turning his torso quickly and pressing his right leg forward. Throughout his swing, he wastes little energy by maintaining his position above the ball. There are dozens of manufacturers, tons of club models, shafts, club-heads, grips and the list goes on. For example, in 2006, including their women’s clubs, Callaway Golf manufactured ten different iron sets, ten drivers, and eight fairway wood models. That is a lot from which to choose, especially if you don’t know what you should be considering.

The driver is more difficult to hit than a three wood because of its lower loft. For that reason, in recent years club manufacturers have been making drivers with more loft. Some years ago, drivers with 7 to 8 degrees of loft were common; now the more common lofts are in the 9.5 to 12 degree range. the reason your driver shaft length is longer than your three wood shaft is so you can develop more club head speed and hit it farther. Instead, try to get up around 90 mph first. Once you can get there, you can try to get up to around 100. Depending on how good your mechanics are, the time to get to these levels will vary. I recommend a Swing Speed Radar or Trackman Pro to measure your clubhead – any of the devices in golf stores will often have a big built in error.

With just a few small tips like this, you should be able to determine which clubs will work for you and why. Knowing why is just as important because you will be able to adjust your equipment as you improve on your game over time. If you find your swing speed improving, you may find you will be able to switch to clubs that will give you the feel and shot selection of the better players. Many professional golfers have a very quick hip rotation in golf swing. It is very noticeable in the professional golfer Tiger Woods’ shot.

So, for every golf swing you chose whether it is the drive or an iron or a metal club, we hit the ball according to our swing speed. If you swing at 85 to 95 mph you will hit the ball much shorter then if you swung the club at 110 mph. If your swing speed is about 90 mph or less, a good fairway wood with a low center of gravity helps keep your trajectory a little higher. The lower center of gravity also means you can use stronger lofts for a slight increase in distance. For John’s game, a game-improvement set would be a better choice and achieve better results. “Game improvement” is not a negative connotation. After all, many professionals use them. It simply means they are built to last and they are often easier to use. A larger club-face, perimeter weighting, and thicker top-line and sole, among other factors, contribute to their ease of use.

The point is that most of us are not playing with a driver that has the proper loft to provide us with maximum distance and accuracy. The simple reason for this is that golf club manufacturers are not making drivers with the lofts that are correct for most golfers. Golf ball design has come a long way in the past few years. So now more than ever it is possible to gain distance by selecting the right ball for your swing. The offset distance is the space between an imaginary line down the centre of the shaft and the leading edge of the blade. An offset club helps a player to align the clubface with the target, thus reducing slice and helping produce a higher ball flight. In progressively offset golf irons the offset will vary, with more in the longer irons to correct the tendency to slice with these clubs.

The average golfer hits the ball with a club head speed of about 85 mph. It takes many years of practice to be able to approach the speed of a professional golfer. The long driving contest participants practice a different type of hitting the golf ball. Unfortunately for many golfers of all levels they don’t realize, don’t believe, don’t know how, etc that they can do increase their speed. However, the good news is that given the right guidance and training, it’s actually quite easy to learn to swing faster. This is especially true if you are not already doing anything for your speed.

Wrist Rollers: Take a wooden handle, hang rope from the middle, and put a weight on the other end. Roll the weight up and down, rolling in each direction. Try making the handles thicker if you want to challenge your grip at different angles. Grade your effort by both the number of times you completely roll and unroll the weight, and the speed at which you can roll the weight. Just imagine a quarterback trying to throw the long ball on every down, how long do you think his arm would last. Or how about a hockey player trying to score every time he came down the ice trying to exceed 100 mph on every shot. The only exception would be the pro tennis player that hits his serve at 130 to 145 mph each and every time or even every time they return a shot. They put just about everything they have into each and every shot.

Does A Ram Golf Club’s Low Price Mean They Are No Good To A Serious

If you are a professional golfer, you should know by heart that golf drivers are indispensable equipment of your life spent on the golf course. What follows is a list of four of the best Golf Drivers available today from some of the biggest names in Golf. The Finest Guide To Golf Swing Plane Training Aids

You can spend all the time in the world on perfecting your golf swing but if you are not training correctly and using the right tools you are wasting your time. Swing aids are all designed to address a specific aspect of the golf swing. They are engineered to give mechanical feedback to the golfer when they fail to execute the swing properly. The Medicus is a good example. It focuses on the helping the golfer with any swing plane issues. Others focus on something different like building swing speed or golf muscles. Place two golf clubs on the ground parallel to one another other. One where the golf ball would be, with the butt end of the club facing the target, and the other club parallel to it, and along your toe line at address.

There are also golf swing training aids, such as the golf swing trainer, that are designed to keep your golf swing on one plane. This is an easy way to practice the one plane golf swing at home with minimal expense. You just need to put in the training time. The first golf training aid I would like to talk about is the Izzo smooth swing, this is a great device for keeping your arms and body in harmony for a more efficient golf swing. This can lead to greater distance and accuracy which every golfer is looking for, I have used one of these for a few years now at home and on the driving range. I have found that it not only improved my distance and accuracy, but also gives me a great sense of the rhythm and timing needed for a smooth golf swing.

If you were to stop and check this about halfway down, the butt should point in the vicinity of this line a couple of feet behind the ball. If it does, you have a very good chance of coming into impact with the clubshaft in the right position to smash the golf ball. The second of the golf swing drills that I have found to be very helpful is the step through Drill. This drill is designed to let you utilize one of most important power sources, the legs!Which at this point is one of the latest trends in the ‘s very simple to may take some time at best thing about this drill is that it allows you to feel the right lower body motion.

The Momentus Power Hitter Swing Speed Trainer is similar, but it focuses on training you to keep the club on an even plane. The club is evenly weighted throughout. When you swing it, the weight of the club naturally swings it along the path of least resistance. This natural swing is ideal in your golf swing, and you can train yourself to get the feel for it with this club. The Self Teaching Board Golf Training Aid is a versatile golf teaching tool. It is a long board that you place in front of you when you practice. It’s great for beginners who are still learning how to swing.

Firstly because of the additional weight, a golfer is able to exercise and condition the muscles they use for their golf swing. Secondly the weighted club also enables the golfer to work on their swing technique. Right from the set-up to the backswing and follow-through. But don’t fret, it’s really not as overwhelming as it appears. Although you may be tempted to buy every golf training aid in sight, it’s not necessary or practical, unless of course money is no object. The more prudent option would be to look at your overall golf game and decide what training aids would benefit your particular golf game.

-Grip wrap straps – Facilitates the correct grip pressure and secures control of the club. The Assist Pro Swing Trainer will help you with the grip because it automatically puts your hands in the proper swing position. What is coming out clearly is the fact that golf specific exercises play a key role in helping any golfer dramatically improve on their game quicker and perfect various aspects of their game much more rapidly, like the golf swing plane for example. Practice with a small back swing – Use a small back swing (less than two feet) to practice keeping the hands low just before impact. Remember to keep the hands forward of the club head and the imaginary line extending from the bottom of the shaft pointed to the target line at all times. Doing several repetitions of this drill at the beginning of practice on the range will help develop the proper coordination and muscle memory.

What causes the problem is usually one of a few things. It may be that the golfer has swayed laterally on their backswing and has over exaggerated their turning. Or perhaps it is caused when the golfer pulls the club too far inside at the start of the takeaway. And often it occurs when the golfer, obsessed with making a full shoulder turn, has done so by swing the golf club on a more horizontally rounded, rather than vertical, swing path. Keep the swing on plane – This is often easier said than done, but, per above, imagining a laser extending from both ends of the club path that consistently follows the target line running through the ball works wonders.

One last thing to check to overcome a golf slice: Part of the problem may be in the way you are NOT transferring your weight in the golf swing. If you find that on your follow-through that the majority of your weight is on the right foot (for righty’s), you are not transferring your weight properly. This will cause an outside to inside swing plane and will result in a slice. This is the only training aid that I use to keep my golf swing on plane, the swingyde is a fantastic piece of equipment. Using the swingyde is so easy and effective it can take your golf swing to the next level dramatically, the swingyde works with a clip that attaches to the shaft of your club on one end, and a built-in rest that touches your left forearm on the other.

First, you must learn about the correct golf swing plane and how important is it in playing golf. The golf swing plane is the trajectory or the route that the ball takes after you hit it with your golf club. So you see it is more of a physics thing. It is possible that you have what is known as a “weak grip.” This simply means that your grip is such that your hands tend to roll the club to an open position and the ball curves right at impact. The swing plane represents the path on which your golf club should travel upon during the swing.

Another training aid to help your speed is the Swing Fan Club. It has blades like a fan on it, that create resistance in the air when you swing it. It’s good for building up strength. I’ve personally met with over 80 golf professionals to discuss what Golf Training Aids work and what doesn’t. What I found was a consistent theme – if the Swing Trainer or Putting Aid restricts or constricts your natural body movement, it’s likely not going to be effective. If the golfer fails to do so the rounded portion will strike the ball causing it to run along the ground instead of becoming airborne.

PGA Golf Professional and former Tour Champion, Jake Zastko has been teaching golf for over 50 years.
