What’s The Paleo Diet?

Are you fighting a war on obesity? So when you cheat a day or so here and there on the diet, it does not defeat the entire program, providing that you stay on the anti-fungal rotation and Phase 0. Overall this is a great diet to try, but only in the short run. Most diets fail to mention how you gain back your weight once you stop doing it and this is no different with the Caveman diet. For these reasons, and some of the other common sense points Mark discusses, I eat and recommend the Primal way of eating rather than a Strict-Paleo diet. This means I can enjoy some high-quality dairy products from time to time such as dark chocolate, Kerry Gold butter, and the occasional rice product.

Before our switch to agriculture, we lived on a hunter-gatherer diet for around 2.5 million years. For 2.5 million years we foraged and hunted for a variety of wild plants and animals. Our diets consisted of animals, nuts, seeds and plants. It’s only been in the last 10,000 years that we have begun to eat grains, legumes, and dairy. Paleo diet experts argue that 10,000 years hasn’t been enough time for our digestive systems to adapt to these foods. Of course, once you start skipping meals you will compromise your intake. Because men have a higher reserve of muscle they can call on it for protein during fasting days. Women, however, soon begin to lose too much muscle and adversely affect their body composition to a much greater degree than men.

Humans have eaten fish, fowl, meat, leaves, roots, and fruits of lots of plants for millions of years. Potatoes, grains, and beans have lots of energy, but cannot be eaten in their raw state since they have harmful toxins. We began to cook these foods about 10,000 years ago, making them edible. The grains were things like flour, barley, rice, millet, oats, and corn. Since this was during the New Stone Age, they are referred to as Neolithic Foods. Basically, during a cutting fat phase of your life you want to replace carbs with fats. Why? So that you’re not using glucose for energy and fats are faster absorbed and produce more anabolic hormones to keep you maintaining and sometimes even building muscle. The ketogenic diet is a prime example of how effective your body becomes when fed this way.

The Paleo Diet is a way of eating (I don’t like the word diet) that replicates how we used to eat in the wild as hunter-gatherers. The Paleo Diet consists of food that is found in nature and only in nature. In a nutshell it is: Meat, leaves, and berries. With mouth-watering recipes like this, no one would ever feel like they were missing out. Paleo Diet recipes make it easy for you to incorporate a healthy diet into your life without ever feeling deprived or bored. You will need to have a plan to succeed. You have a lifetime of a modern day dieting behind you so you are a lot more physically and psychologically hooked on neolithic these foods than you understand.

One of the major secondary problems associated with Candida Albicans is weight gain. A number of the problems associated with losing weight and staying with a diet are due to Candida Albicans. A person with Candida Albicans will often crave sugar and simple carbohydrates because this is the main source of nutrients for yeast. Mood swings and depression are often associated with the rapid change in blood sugar levels caused by the yeast. My fridge is full of cottage cheese and yogurt. But I’m not a big fan of milk, as I’ve found that it makes me ‘stuffy’, for lack of a better word. If you want to know the gory details, I get some mucus buildup after drinking milk, which leads me to suspect I have a low-grade allergy to it. It’s the same feeling I’ve had after eating takeout Chinese food loaded with MSG – not good. Interestingly, I can eat cottage cheese and yogurt all day without the stuffiness.

While many of us have consumed healthy foods, most of us haven’t exclusively consumed cavemen’s foods. Thus, adjusting to the Paleo Diet can be somewhat challenging for many people. A healthy diet consists of eating foods that are processed the least. That means your diet should consist of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, whole grains, nuts, fresh fish, lean meats and other foods that are not processed by the food industry. Processing food ads to the shelf life of food but it degrades the quality of nutrients in the foods that your body needs.

After the Paleolithic era ended and the agricultural or Neolithic times started, people started eating a lot more dairy products, beans, grains, alcohol and salt. Using the paleo diet plan properly can rectify many dietary and food imbalances that can contribute to “diseases of affluence”, such as asthma, cancer, coronary heart disease, diabetes, gout, hypertension, obesity, and certain allergies. The overall effect, as described by many, is a more mentally alert and healthier state of being in general. Depending on your current eating habits, weight loss very well may be in the cards, so to speak, but is not the main goal. The main goal is to cut out all the extra chemicals, food coloring, food perspectives and junk that is currently being added to the most common foods of today.

Try not to deceive yourself into justifying particular foods and drinks simply because they are theoretically paleo. Yes, wine is produced from grapes, but it is also crammed with sugar so it must only be had in moderation. The biggest asset of this diet is the eviction of calorie charts as well as control in diet. The quantity can be unlimited but the crucial factor is the eviction of sugars and other altered forms of natural foodstuff. Hence there are no curbs with this diet as far as the quantity is concerned.

Our body is pre-programmed to profit from the food plan consumed in the Paleolithic era. Those people who are allergic to dairy and athletes are among the many who are avid paleo dieters. And yes, those people who want to avoid “foreign proteins” at all cost. Those who are also trying to avoid cardiovascular diseases, asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes are following the diet. When you process food through heat, chemical, or other means you are removing the nature. Some foods, such as grains, are not meant to be consumed in their raw state and must undergo major heat processing to be edible to humans. This is a sign we are NOT MEANT TO EAT THEM! Perhaps that is why gluten and grains cause SO many gut and health issues.

One of the easiest ways to combat inflammation is by drinking sufficient water. Particularly if you drink coffee or any caffeinated beverage, water is a must. The commonly accepted amount for active people is about a gallon a day. The average Western diet derives 49% of energy intake from carbohydrate, 35% from fat, and 16% from protein, Batterham said. Hunter-gatherers likely ate as much as twice the amount of protein as their modern counterparts. The Paleo Diet, also known as the caveman diet was created on the basis that humans should go back to a natural and unprocessed way of eating, much like our ancient predecessors.

If you were to look at the ingredients in terms of calories, trans fats, salt and sugar of a healthy diet compared to the average American diet, you would be shocked at just what you are putting into your body. There is no comparison between a healthy home-cooked meal and a meal that most people eat at fast food restaurants. Paleo diet’s advice to avoid eating processed foods and sugars is supported by modern studies which have found a link between processed food and sugars, and weight gain or lifestyle diseases.
